El destino de la mujer transgresora en tres cuentos con desenlace fantástico de Juana Manuela Gorriti

Producción científicarevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

A substantial part of Argentinian author Juana Manuela Gorriti’s narrative work has been described as fantastic literature. Two characters, the madwoman and the ghost, lend a fantastic aura to the author’s short stories, signaling the unavoidable fate of nonconformist women. This paper examines the presence of these two figures in three of her short stories anthologized in  Sueños y realidades  (1865), Argentina’s earliest published collection of fantastic short stories. I posit that Gorriti uses the conventions of the fantastic genre to voice her disapproval of contemporary political events, corresponding to Rosas’s dictatorship as well as its aftermath.
