Abstract

Three main components structure the Female Athlete Triad which are, disordered
eating, amenorrhea, and low bone mineral density. This could be a dilemma for athletes
because the elements of the triad may contribute to major health issues in the future. The
purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of risk factors associated with the
Female Athlete Triad among Eastern Illinois University female cross country runners.
Thirteen subjects ranging in age from 18 - 22 years participated in this study. A five part
questionnaire was utilized to determine the subject's demographics, exercise history,
dietary habits, menstrual history, and skeletal health risk level.
