About
Dr. Maniotes examines family relationships through the lens of health and public policy, with an emphasis on child custody decisions during the divorce process. Additionally, his research addresses the role of family courts in an effort to inform policy, particularly in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV). Beyond the legal framework, his work touches on family dynamics and health during critical transitions (e.g., transition to marriage, COVID-19), ultimately advocating for vulnerable populations.
At EIU, Dr. Maniotes is committed to student success and mentorship. He oversees the departmental honors program and serves on a number of professional committees, such as the Undergraduate Research Task Force and the AI Task Force. Beyond EIU, he serves as a board member for ILCFR, the state-level affiliate of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).
